correspondent jim acosta is traveling with him. jim? >> reporter: wolf, it is a pre-debate tradition. managing expectation just in case their candidate has an off night wednesday and both sides have another thing in common. they think media might be pulling for the other guy. >> governor, are you ready? >> ready for the debate? >> yes. i'm there. >> reporter: after a weekend of debate preparations, mitt romney was careful to avoid questions about his first matchup with president obama. but on a conference call with reporters, a top adviser revealed there's one subject romney is ready for. >> not to worry -- >> reporter: the comments that were caught on tape on the 47% of voters he said were dependent on government. >> we wouldn't be surprised, obviously, if that came up at the debate, and the governor's prepared obviously to respond to that. >> reporter: after lowering expectations for days, the romney campaign sent new jersey governor chris christie out on the sunday talk show circuit where he made a surprising prediction. the gop nominee will pull off a game changer. >> he will contrast what
outside groups. one was backed by senator jim demint. they did a poll of their supporters online, and they all said that they believe that they should back todd akin and i think we have a shot of the website. so far they have raised $138,000 in a week online. so, you know, that's not going to win the race for todd akin, but it is more money than he had before and we'll see how much money they raise in the next month. >> that is missouri. let's talk maine. you and i have talked about senator olympia snowe, on this show, i want to say last week. she was talking about how -- just the frustration, you know her story, frustration between the bickering back and forth and so after, what, six -- 18 years in the senate, she's leaving. what does it look like for republicans to grab that seat? >> it is a really tough one for both parties because this is a three-way race. the moderate republican, as you mentioned, she's retiring. and when you look at state of play, republicans rlly need to hold on to this seat because if they lose it, they'll have to pick up another democratic seat elsewhere
